The idea for CASTANEA Crafts in Spain grew out of owner Brenda Killigrew’s passion for Spain. Brenda, who already runs Inkberrow Design Centre, an education centre in Redditch, Worcestershire, renowned for its excellence in millinery, fashion, theatre costume, textiles and interior design, produces cutting-edge work with City & Guilds, Diploma and HND students.

With CASTANEA, Brenda wanted to introduce a more informal and relaxed way of learning. Crafts in Spain does just this. Situated in the Murcia region, it is the ideal getaway to immerse yourself in your favourite craft, surrounded by sunny skies and like-minded people.


                

For those who get bored on a typical beach-style holiday, or find that they have no one to go away with, special interest breaks such as this bridge the gap, enabling you to enjoy the weather, see a little of the area and forge new and often long-lasting friendships.

So whether it’s multi-media textiles, stained glass or precious metal clay that takes your fancy, CASTANEA is the ideal holiday, suitable for singles or groups wishing to share their passion for crafting.  With fantastic golfing near by, it is also the perfect solution for ladies whose husbands are golf enthusiasts! 

                

I thoroughly enjoyed teaching in Spain in October and am looking forward to going back in June to teach Hot Textiles. I have been particularly inspired by the Cathedral in Murcia and am wanting to some more research in to its history.

The gardens of the studio are also somewhere I would like to spend more time just sitting, drinking wine and maybe having a go at drawing some of the very beautiful trees in the garden, the are one or two quite rare specimens including a stunning Brachychiton (Bottle Tree) with the most beautiful seed pods.
