Testimonial from Jackie & Jo who are friends working together on the Experimental Textiles Video Library
We recently started working in mixed media and discovered ‘Kim’s experimental online workshops’. From the day we signed up,we were inspired. The instructive demonstrations are so clear and , because they are divided into bite sized videos, we can keep returning to them whilst we are working on our own technique samples. We love Kim’s bright disposition and pace of delivery. It is giving us a wonderful insight into how to use mediums that were fairly new to us. Jackie and Jo

Tinkering with Tyvek - now live

You will paint and stitch, incorporate polyester organza with this wonderful medium, then heat it with various tools to create fascinating textures, bowls, vessels or sculptural forms. You will need a sewing machine and a heat gun for the workshop. No aerosols or oil-based paints can be used on this workshop.
Bonkers About Bondaweb - now live
You will work through the basics of all the creative applications for painted and unpainted Bondaweb. This will include foiling for T shirts, decorating book covers and creating beautiful surfaces on which to stitch, using all manner of sparkle and/or natural elements.
Create wonderful surfaces to stitch by ironing Bondaweb onto fabric or recycled papers.
You will also work with soldering irons to cut applique shapes.

Raising the Surface for Stitch -
going live January 30th
Working with Bondaweb/Vliesofix/Wonderunder 805 and Tyvek, along with other ways to create texture, you will develop some great raised surfaces to stitch over and across. You will work on layering up samples during the workshop. Tyvek is a fabulous product for creating interesting textures but needs to be blended into your work by using toning colours and incorporating with stitch.
A New Starting Point - now live

Discover and develop the redemptive qualities of old newspapers, maps, music and books. Create fascinating surfaces on which to print and stitch. Using painted Bondaweb/Vliesofix/Wonderunder 805 and all manner of sparkle, we will explore the possibilities of layering textures.

Zap! Pow! Slash & Melt! -

For all those that love their heat tools or would like to know more about how to use them. You will use an iron, heat gun and soldering iron and a sewing machine on this workshop. Working with Lutradur, painted and unpainted Bondaweb, transfer foils and gilding flake.
Learn how to control heat and the effect you can achieve with it. You can work in 2 or 3D in the workshop, it’s up to you. No aerosols or oil-based paints can be used on this workshop.

Beautiful Boxes & Book Covers
live January 30th
Enjoy creating larger boxes with the very firm Vlieseline S133 and smaller boxes and book covers with the more leather like Vlieseline Decovil 1 or Decovil light. The box shapes can be cut with a scalpel/knife. Both these wonderful interfacings have glue on one side so your decoration can be ironed onto this surface. You will choose how you decorate the box or book cover, whether it is with my ‘background and pretty’ technique, or maybe newspaper faux chenille – or maybe both. You will be using recycled papers and Bondaweb/Vleseline/Wonderunder 805 and all manner of sparkle.
We will look at edges and how you might join the seams of your boxes. Also, how they might be fastened.
If you would rather go ‘off piste’ and work on free form sculpture – Go for it!
Fabulous Cuffs & Collars -
live January 30th
The leather like Decovil 1 and Decovil light iron on interfacings are fabulous products to work with. Being heavier than most interfacings they are perfect for making decorative collars and cuffs. They are light enough to stitch into and can be cut with scissors and a soldering iron to create exciting edges. You can experiment with different ways of fastening your pieces and discover how you can create jewel like surfaces using gilding flake, transfer foil, printing and flat backed gem stones. (real or plastic).

Newspaper Faux Chenille
live December 30th
This technique is not complicated to learn and have fun with.
Working with painted and unpainted newspaper, old maps, music – whatever you have, but newspaper is my favourite.

The workshops are suitable for beginners or the experienced textile artist. You can always learn something new.
The most important thing is we have fun while we learn.
The best thing as you are working from your home/studio is, being surrounded by all your 'stuff'!!
You can find just what you need, when you need it.
